From Ahmedabad, at about 2 hours distance, one can travel to Rann Riders, near the little Rann of Kutch, and the Wild Ass Sanctuary.
It has uniquely designed Koobas, tribal huts, which from the inside are totally equipped with all modern amenities. A favourite with Western travellers interested in Bird sightings, and the wildlife around the Rann of Kutch, Rann Riders is managed by Mujahid Malik and his extended family.
We went for a two day trip, and were warmly welcomed by the staff. Even the environment around Rann Riders, appeals to one and all, including children. The costs include Desert Safari and they offer Horse Safari at extra cost. They have their own stables at the same spot. If one wishes, they also arrange visits to the tribal village for shopping handicrafts and ethnic jewellery/clothes.
The best time ofcourse to visit is mid Oct – Feb, if you are keen on watching the numerous migratory birds including flamingoes, cranes and the elusive and nearly extinct Hubbar Bustard in the Desert.
They have their website www.littlerannofkutch.com or www.rannriders.com
Posting a few snaps of the place too along with the blog.
